Anne-Karin Grill

Anne-Karin is the founder and managing director of AKG ADVISORY, an international ADR law firm based in Vienna, Austria, specializing in the prevention and resolution of international disputes. She has a proven track record as counsel in commercial and ISDS arbitrations. She also has first-hand experience in designing hybrid ADR processes.

As an IMI-certified mediation lawyer, Anne-Karin supports her clients in negotiation and solution-generation processes, managing party dynamics and helping to formulate legally sustainable solutions.

As a CEDR-accredited mediator, she acts as a neutral in multi-jurisdictional commercial disputes, and is also active in investor-state mediation. She really knows the mediation process from both sides.

Anne-Karin led a working group set up by the Vienna International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) for the introduction of the Vienna Mediation Rules (2016) and its most recent revision. She was also a member of the UNCITRAL expert group for the preparation of the UNCITRAL Mediation Rules and the UNCITRAL notes on the organization of mediation proceedings.

Professional directories such as Chambers Global and The Legal 500 identify Anne-Karin as one of the best in the field and have identified her as “the go-to mediation specialist” in Austria. Who’s Who Legal Commercial Mediation notes that she is standing out in the international market as a “top mediator in her generation” with a “dynamic and excellent” demeanor.

Anne-Karin is a member of the Energy Community Mediators Panel and features on the list of mediators established by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.

She also serves on the Mediation Advisory Board of the Vienna International Arbitral Centre (VIAC) and the Panel of Conciliators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

Anne-Karin teaches mediation at the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna and in renowned international legal programs. She is also the author of numerous publications in the field.
